We see that it has become more and more popular to build your own ethanol stove. This has led many to choose to buy an  ethanol burner instead of a ready-made module. In this article, we thought we would go through what is important to keep in mind when designing your own ethanol stove .

Like any other fire, fire from bioethanol stoves is a dangerous fire. Ethanol burns at a lower temperature than wood, which makes the fire not as hot but much easier to light. When the liquid in the burner decreases, the flames will change from yellow to a more blue color and then extinguish the fire when the fuel is exhausted. Now it is important that you do not add bioethanol as the burner itself is hot and the stove can ignite automatically.

When you are going to build your own stove, it is important to choose the right size of burner. For a room of 10 sqm, it is not entirely correct to put in a burner of 1 meter unless ventilation is extremely good. We recommend that you place a 1 liter burner in a room that is approximately 5-10 sqm and then you can scale this up proportionally. However, we believe that you can use a slightly larger ethanol stove in the conservatory as they are usually a few degrees colder.

Applicable materials that can be used in the construction of an ethanol stove are sheet metal, concrete, gypsum boards (fire-rated), composite, heat-resistant glass recommended materials. There are certainly a handful of other materials that are also easy to use. The easiest way to get the burner itself in the right place is to make a small hole in the sheet or concrete and lay down the burner. The burner should rest on its edges that protrude slightly from the body itself.

With an ethanol burner, it is the imagination that determines what your self-built stove will look like. Some have chosen to use glass, concrete to build their own stove. Some build a portable while others build it like a classic fireplace. The difference between a regular wood stove and an ethanol burner is that the fire is elongated in a burner, not like a square. Something we have wanted to test is to build so-called outdoor stoves for terraces and patios.

When you then choose to turn on the burner, it will be very hot within about 10 minutes. We do not recommend that you touch it with your hands immediately after the fire has gone out, but use the stick that came in the package. Most burners have a lid that can be easily adjusted with the help of a small steel pin. If you want large flames, you should leave the lid very open. If you want smaller flames, close the lid a little and if you want to extinguish the fire completely, suffocate it with the help of the lid.

At Inno-living you can find burners of 1 liter up to about 50 liters where the longest are 3.4 meters long and the smallest are 50  cm long. There is no difference in how they are designed, but large and small burners are built in the same way.
